Dish Network is trying to screw me! (transcript)
Okay, so here’s the situation, My Dish Network Bill is freaking high. I’m sick of $100 bucks a month. So, I figured I would get an ALL HD package and drop my SD (standard def) package. So, bascially I wanted to keep the current HD channels I have and drop they’re Top200 channels, since I hardly ever watch non-HD channels anymore. It would be a savings of about $40 bucks. Well, I chatted with a lady online. They said it was only available to new customers and she never gave me a reason why. Then she blamed technical difficulties and ended the chat. Here’s the chat log:
(03) Rachel S.: Thank you for choosing Dish Network the leader in DVR and HD. I will be happy to assist you today. Please give me 2-3 minutes to access your account and review the information you have already provided.
Greg Muschong: ok
(03) Rachel S.: Your patience is greatly appreciated.
(03) Rachel S.: Could you please verify the name and address on the account?
(03) Rachel S.: I was unable to access your account with the phone number you have provided. Can you please provide a different telephone number or the 16 digit account number listed on your Dish Network bill statement?
Greg Muschong: Greg Muschong
Greg Muschong: XXX Blah Street
Greg Muschong: xxx-xxx-xxxx isn’t it?

(03) Rachel S.: Thank you.
(03) Rachel S.: Could you please verify your area zipcode.
Greg Muschong: xxxxx
(03) Rachel S.: Thank you.
(03) Rachel S.: I understand that you want to know about the HD package. I am correct?
Greg Muschong: yeah, I basically would like to keep the hd channels I have, and drop the sd package
(03) Rachel S.: I’d be happy to assist you with that. Please give me 2-3 minutes for this.
Greg Muschong: ok
(03) Rachel S.: Your patience is greatly appreciated.
(03) Rachel S.: I see that you already have Silver HD Platinum HD.
Greg Muschong: yes
(03) Rachel S.: So, you are receiving all HD programming.
Greg Muschong: well, I want just HD.. I don’t need the SD(standard def) programming… the top200
(03) Rachel S.: I am sorry.
(03) Rachel S.: The turbo HD is available to new customers only.
Greg Muschong: really? why?
Currently experiencing network delays, one moment please….
(03) Rachel S.: However, from August 1st you were automatically Turbo-Charged and getting the benefits and features of TurboHD with your current HD package.
Network connection re-established.
(03) Rachel S.: By February 1, 2009 we will have even more HD channels so we are going to wait until we have a more robust HD only package before we offer it to all customers.
We want the package to be similar to what you are enjoying today from DISH Network.
(03) Rachel S.: We want the package to be similar to what you are enjoying today from DISH Network.
Greg Muschong: well, why can’t I drop the top200 now, and when february comes it “automatically get’s turbo-charged” with more hd channels
Greg Muschong: so, I can keep the hd channels I have now
(03) Rachel S.: By February 1, 2009 we will have even more HD channels so we are going to wait until we have a more robust HD only package before we offer it to all customers
Greg Muschong: and get rid of the top200 channels, that I don’t ever watch
Greg Muschong: you just said that
(03) Rachel S.: We want the package to be similar to what you are enjoying today from DISH Network.
Greg Muschong: okay, stop with the cut and paste..
Greg Muschong: and give me a reason why I can’t have HD only? but new customers can.
Greg Muschong: hello?
(03) Rachel S.: I am afraid, there are some technical issues with our web site. Please try to login after a couple of hours.

So, what do I do now? crap!

That’s just ridiculous. Believe me, they aren’t the only company with horrible customer service. I’ve been on the phone with Comcast several times in heated arguments with them. The grass isn’t greener though. At least you have a bunch of HD channels though…we only have a bunch…there are so many channels that broadcast in HD but Comcast doesn’t carry them. I would say to just stick it out for a while. Consider yourself lucky Greg…my bill is almost $170 bucks a month…and that’s if I don’t order a WWE Pay Per View that month!
that sucks, yet is simultaneously awesome in that she so blatantly ignored your rather straightforward question..
