51 Days Until Halloween: The Town that Dreaded Sundown

Sorry, I’ve been enjoying my long Labor Day Holiday weekend. But, I’m back.

Today, I’m bringing you a movie that I didn’t even know existed until I saw the movie “Scream”. In “Scream”, there’s several references to several different horror movies. Most of the horror movies they mention are classics like Psycho, Carrie & Halloween. But, there were a few obscure ones. One of them being, “The Town that dreaded Sundown”.

This movie was made in 1976, based on a “True Story” back in 1946. A small town in Arkansas is terrorized by a weird hooded murdered. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this movie. It’s not the scariest movie in the world. But, since it is over 30 years old, it’s got that creepy 70s horror movie vibe. The murderer wears a burlap sack, similar to Jason Vorhee’s mask before he picked up the Hockey mask in Friday the 13th part 3.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find this movie on Netflix, or available on dvd. I remember seeing it long ago on VHS. That seems like the only way you can find this one. Here’s the Trailer:

In doing some research, they plan on re-making this movie in 2011, and making it in 3D. I’m sure it won’t be as good. Why can’t hollywood stick with original ideas instead of remaking everything? Oh well. If you can find this one somewhere, and you still have a VCR in your house, check it out.
