2005 Wrap Up

Read Time:7 Minute, 55 Second

Happy New Year everyone!!

So, it’s 2006 now, and it means another huge year for half-assed productions. The actual 1 year anniversary of halfassedproductions.com will be on January 6th. A lot of cool things happened this year. Some great movies, music, tv shows, etc. I’m going to take a look at some of my favorite things of 2005. So lets start:

Favorite Movies of 2005

The 40 Year Old Virgin

I just recently saw this one on dvd. I must say, its probably the best comedy of the year. I looked into it, and the chest hair ripping scene is totally real. They really ripped out Steve Carell’s chest hair in the scene. It’s totally weird watching The Office, then watching this. Steve Carell’s character is the totally opposite. The writer/director of this movie also wrote, directed & produced 2 of my favorite tv shows of all time: “Freaks & Geeks” and “Undeclared”. Too bad both of those shows were also cancelled. Anyway, check out this movie. It’s probably not a movie you want to watch with your grandma though. haha

par-tay..
Wedding Crashers

As, you can probably see, comedies are my favorite movie genre. This movie doesn’t disappoint. Two guys crash wedding to pick up chicks. They’re basically con men, except their looking to score with chicks. Of course one of the guys fall in love, and blah blah blah. The story has basically been done before. But, believe me when I say you will laugh a ton while watching this movie.

I'm batman..
Batman Begins

As far as superhero movies go, they’re usually hit or miss. This is a total hit. It didn’t have as much publicity behind it as Fantastic Four did, which sucked by the way. But, this is the best Batman movie ever made! It is up there with one of the best comic book movies of all time. If you liked the 1990 version of Batman, and think that’s the best one, well your opinion will totally change after seeing this one.

Most Over-Rated Movie of 2005

yellow blood?
Sin City

I’m sure there’s many people who love this movie. In fact, in many of the mainstream press articles about best movies of the year, they put this one at the top. I’d have to say, that’s a bunch of crap. I would have put Fantastic Four as most over-rated movie, but I think many people agree with me on that one. Sin City, is a movie that is chopped to bits. It’s the most violent movie I’ve never seen. I don’t have a problem with violence, it’s just this was stupid. I wanted to like this movie, but I just couldn’t. The story line goes all over the place. I will say it was one of the most original movie I’ve ever seen, original piece of crap!

Best New TV Shows of 2005

Karma
My Name is Earl

Okay, this show, hands down, is the best new show of 2005. I’m a huge Jason Lee fan to begin with though. He’s great in all the Kevin Smith movies. He plays a guy who is tired of bad stuff happing to him. So, he decides to start making up for all the bad things he’s done. It’s very fresh & original. It also has Ethan Suplee in it, who a lot of you may know as Willam Black from Mallrats.

Robot Chicken
Robot Chicken

This is Seth Green’s newest project. This show is only 15 minutes long, but it’s so good. It’s basically clamation, or stop motion animation of action figures. They have had just about every action figure: He-Man, Transformers, Smurfs, Voltron, etc. Anyway, it’s funny.

Rainy
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

This show is great. To me, it reminds me of Seinfeld. Maybe it’s because it’s 3 guys and 1 girl. But, I think it’s one of the funniest shows to come around in years. The sad thing is there was only 7 episodes in the first season. But, the good news there are more episodes coming in 2006. So, that’s good. It’s on FX, so many of you may of not even heard of the show. But, if you see it’s on check it out, you won’t be disapointed.

Music of 2005

Okay, as far as music this year. I didn’t think there was that many albums that came out that just blew me away. Don’t get me wrong there were great singles. Maybe I’m just getting a short attention span as I get older, which is kinda weird. But, anyway, let me let you know a little bit more about myself. I’m mainly into punk, but I do like alternative & rap. But, I can get into just about anything, except country, I just don’t get it’s appeal, but oh well, I’m not here to judge. You can see more of my music tastes by checking out my myspace profile . So, what I’m saying, everyone has their own tastes in music, here’s a few of my picks.

dangerdoom
DangerDoom – The Mouse and the Mask

I had no idea what to expect with this album. Here’s the scenerio, I heard that Adult Swim was putting out a cd. I thought, holy crap, I gotta check that out. Anyway, a rapper named MF Doom, & a dj name Danger Mouse, got togther. See how they came up with the name, DangerDoom. So, it’s all rap, but you’ve got adult swim characters on a bunch of the songs too. Let’s see you’ve got Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman, Space Ghost, & the cast of Sealab 2021. It’s funny, and it’s got a good beat. When I first got this, I listened to it for about 3 weeks straight. So, I like it.

Reggie
Reggie and the Full Effect – Songs Not to Get Married To

I won’t try to be cool, and act like I know who Reggie was before I listen to this. They’ve been around for awhile, I’ve just never checked them out until this album. I explained it to a friend before as a alternative band with your normal guitars, yelling, but with some gangsta rap keyboards in the background. At least that was my take. I really enjoyed this cd.

beck
Beck – Guero

Hey, the critics are actually right about this one. This is the best Beck album since ‘Odelay’. It’s an album you can actually listen to the whole album all the way through.

2005 Playlist

Here’s a little 2005 playlist that I made, and that I’m listening to while I’m writing this article

AFI – Rabbits are Roadkill on Route 37
Transplants – Gangsters & Thugs
Reel Big Fish – Drinkin’
Reggie & The Full Effect – Get Well Soon
The Offspring – Can’t Repeat
Motion City Soundtrack – Everything is Alright
Story of the Year – We don’t Care Anymore
Stretch Armstrong – The Sounds of Name Droppings
Bloodhound Gang – Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss
Beck – Girl

Stuff I’m looking forward to in 2006

As far as TV, there’s a few tv shows that are coming back in 2006!!

The Sopranos
This show takes such a long vacation, I’ll have to go find the last episode to refresh my memory of what happened. Its so weird that the last episode was almost 2 years ago. I love the show, but I don’t understand why they can’t have new episodes every year. Anyway, they are back on March 12th!

The Shield
YES, Vic is back! From what I remember though, at the end of the last episode there was no cliffhanger. The only thing I remember them doing is capturing Antwan, and the head of the Barn was fired. I’ve already seen previews for the first episode (which starts January 10th!). There’s a new guy in charge, and he’s after Vic & the Strike Team.

Rescue Me
I’m so glad this show is coming back! It will be back after The Shield Finishes up with all their episodes, so it’ll be around March, when The Sopranos are back. The last episode of this was so depressing: a son dies, a hooker steals everyones money, the hot firefighter chick is transfering…. I can’t remember everything, but it was a real depressing last episode.

Movies I’m looking forward to:

Superman Returns
I’m definitely looking forward to this. Superman was always in my comic book collection. Some people say they shouldn’t do anymore superman movies since Christopher Reeves did such a good job. My thing is, Reeves did a great job, but they can make it even better, with better effects. Also, it’s not going to be the same story. Look how many James Bond movies there are. You can put a character in different situations to make it fresh.

He-Man
Yes, you heard me right. They are making a He-Man movie! I don’t know much about it right now, but on imdb.com it says John Woo is directing the thing. He has had a few kickass action movies. I can’t wait to see He-Man back on the big screen.

Welp, that’s about it for my year end review. I’m sure there’s many other things I could have talked about, like the return of Family Guy or the return of Greg the Bunny. I also forgot to mention it was everyone’s last year to walk into the old Busch Stadium to watch a Cardinal game. But, there’s only so many words I really want to put into an article.

So, in the comments leave some of your favorite/worst things/moments of 2005. Here’s to another great year!
