Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) comes up with a way to hustle people out of money. Several people can’t get loans from banks or invest because of bad credit. They come to him, he promises to turn their $5000 dollars into a big profit. He ends up embezzling all their money.

He meets a girl at a party, Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams). He ends up falling for her and they quickly become lovers. Although, Irving is already married to Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence). He’s afraid to divorce her because she’ll take away his son, Danny. So, he stays in the unstable marriage with Rosalyn while still seeing Sydney.

He gets Sydney to become a partner of his money scheme. She goes under the aka of Edith Greensly, a British lady with a lot of wealth. She is the pretty face that can lure “marks” into the “business”. Unfortunately, they end up offering their services to a FBI agent, Richie Demaso (Bradley Cooper). In order to avoid jail, both Irving & Syndey must work for the FBI.

Richie wants them to go after dirty politicians. Their biggest goal is to go after New Jersey Mayor, Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner). This will be harder than the regular schmuck on the street. Irving must get into the inner circle of this politician. He even brings in his unstable wife, Rosalyn into the mix to become friends.

This movie was actually a lot funnier than I thought it was going to be. It’s a great story as well. The costumes / makeup are so brilliant in this movie. Who would of thought you’d see Bradley Cooper in tiny curls or Christian Bale with a hairpiece. This movie is a great ride and it definitely has my approval. 4.5 / 5
